Driving question: How do insects impact human life and the ecosystem?
Grade: Grade 3
Project Descriptor:
In this immersive and empowering project, Grade 3 students embarked on a journey to explore the crucial question: “How do insects impact human life and the ecosystem?”
The project was designed to blend real-world problem-solving with fundamental mathematical and English concepts, fostering a deep understanding of insects, their characteristics and the role they play to impact human life and the ecosystem. The driving question served as a compass, guiding students to discover and implement strategies that ensure deep understanding of these tiny crawly creatures.
Subject integration:
Mathematics – data analysis and collection, measurement concepts comparing length of different full-grown insects and problem solving
Life Skills – arts and crafts, experiments, field trips and insect anatomy
Geography – special focus on the continent of Africa
English – comprehension, shared reading, listening and speaking (oral presentations) and vocabulary
Excursion
Grade 3 students from our Fleurhof campus delved deeper into their driving question with an educational visit to Delta Environmental Centre, exploring the role they play to impact human life and the ecosystem. Click here to watch their journey.
