Driving question: How can we help in the fight against drug abuse amongst teenagers in South Africa?

Grade: Grade 6

Project Descriptor:

Drug abuse among youth (including children and adolescents) is on the increase, and a National Youth Risk Behaviour Survey conducted at High Schools in South Africa, reveals that overall almost 50% of grade 8-11 learners had used alcohol, and 13% had indulged in cannabis use in their lifetime. Drug abuse at an early age has been associated with various problems, such as risky sexual behaviours, health problems, depression, crime, and ultimately drug addiction, which often occur at a later age. https://etd.uwc.ac.za/xmlui/handle/11394/6081#:~:text=Drug%20abuse

This project sought to create an awareness about drug abuse amongst teenagers in South Africa. Students engaged in research to see the statistics of teenagers who have used drugs. Students then provided solutions to the drug problem amongst teenagers in South Africa and the rest of the world.

In a bid to heighten awareness about the battle against teenage drug abuse in South Africa, the Grade 6 class at Fleurhof Campus crafted an advertisement illustrating teenagers’ exposure to drugs, its impact on their lives, and one of the numerous ways we can assist them in overcoming drug dependency.
