Driving question: How can we start and manage successful small businesses in our school community?

Grade: Grade 7

Project Descriptor:

The core question encouraged the students to engage deeply with entrepreneurship, prompting exploration in leadership, business management and the interdisciplinary integration of various academic subjects. To support this journey, they derived additional questions from their subject integration, which were carefully designed to guide the development of the final exhibition products.

The supporting questions helped break down the larger problem into manageable components, allowing the students to focus on key areas such as team management, engagement with service providers, marketing strategies and financial management. Through this approach, they gained a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to launch and run a small business, culminating in a successful Entrepreneurs Day exhibition.

Subject integration:

The teacher led project oversight, monitored the students’ entrepreneurship portfolio files, and provided feedback and evaluations.

Grade 11 students assisted with business model canvases and partnership agreements, defining capital contributions and profit-sharing.

Students designed marketing and promotional materials, developed a product/service video catalogue and integrated QR codes for digital access.

Students compiled post-exhibition reports, documenting outcomes, challenges and leadership insights.

Grade 10 students managed bookkeeping and accounting, tracked sales and expenditures, conducted business calculations and prepared income and expenditure statements.
