Driving question: How can we incorporate AI Animation spaces in African Languages?

Project Descriptor:

AI tools opened up a world of African languages, revolutionising language learning and translation. This new technology broadened education and business opportunities for hundreds of millions of African language speakers.

The primary objective of this project was to integrate AI animation tutorial videos teaching in IsiZulu and Setswana into our classrooms, with a focus on grade 8 students. By embracing our First Additional Language/African languages, we aimed to encourage students to actively engage with these languages through innovative AI technologies.

By leveraging AI technologies, we sought to transform the landscape of African language learning, improving language proficiency and opening up new educational and business opportunities. This project aimed to foster a richer cultural heritage and a brighter future for African language speakers.

Subject integration:

English – speeches and translation

First Additional Languages – translation of subject overviews, parts of speech and orals in Isizulu and Setswana

Creative Arts – story line creation of animation videos
