Driving question: How can South Africa transition to sustainable energy sources to meet its growing energy demands while addressing socio-economic and environmental challenges?

Project Descriptor:

In response to the growing energy demands and the need for sustainable power solutions in South Africa, the Grade 9 students developed ways in which South Africa could potentially address these growing demands. This project aims to explore innovative ways to harness solar energy to reduce the stress on the national power grid and promote environmental sustainability.

Subject integration:

Economic and Management Sciences – market research

Technology – prototype design and building

Mathematics – statistics and probability, algebra, geometry and unit conversions

English – persuasive writing, narrative skills and critical writing

Social Sciences – sustainability assessment, ethical considerations of energy solutions and advocacy and policy infleunce

Guest speaker

Green Wave Group visited both campuses to deliver an informative presentation to Grade 9 students on sustainable energy sources, with a particular focus on solar panels. The presentation highlighted how solar energy is transforming energy consumption in South Africa, addressing the energy crisis and offering environmental benefits.
